Investigation Unveils Online Scam as Motive in Spanish Siblings’ Triple Murder
Spanish authorities are investigating a triple murder case involving elderly siblings and its link to an online romance scam.
The civil guard has arrested a 42-year-old Pakistani man, Dilawar Hussain F.C., who surrendered and confessed to the killings.
The victims, Amelia (67), Ángeles (74), and José Gutiérrez Ayuso (77), were found dead in their Morata de Tajuña home, southeast of Madrid, with signs of partial burning.
The motive appears to be the siblings’ debt to the suspect, connected to an online scam in which the sisters sent significant sums, up to €400,000, to individuals posing as US military personnel.
The relationships drained their finances, leading to financial struggles and requests for money from locals. Hussain, a former lodger at their home, claimed the sisters owed him money from a high-interest loan. Authorities had previously dealt with an assault on Amelia by Hussain, resulting in a two-year jail sentence and a restraining order.
Despite this, he was released after seven months in September. The case highlights the devastating impact of online scams on vulnerable individuals and the tragic consequences that can result.
